The gang and I at the best coast show!


I was mentally preparing my outfit for the best coast show happening on April 13th and you know started thinking about cut off denim vests and starchy cotton boxy 80s print tops and white jeans and soft blond hair pastels and all that then brought myself down to reality and remembered that its ONLY APRIL AND I LIVE IN TORONTO- NOT SANTA MONICA. BOO.
I did however have a vision of my Barbie doll collection and remembered how awesome California Barbie circa 1987 was. I had the Barbie and Midge doll. They came with Beach Boy cassette tapes!

OK so the point to this blog post- to remember how awesome California Barbie and the gang looked and if it was 2010 these Barbies would be listening to Best Coast records!! ya, OK we will go with that..... also, check out BEST COASTS blog... HERE they POST a lot of beach boy videos, which is ALWAYS RAD!

KARLA SPETIC

I was just introduced to the soft, bold and beautiful designs of Karla Spectic. Her bold pops of colour mixed with the softness of pastel is lovely on the eyes. Her twisting and draping is a tad Burberry but she seems to create an original silhouettes that dare I even say it , love a bit more then Burberry ( sorry Mr. Bailey) Karla hails from Australia, and her pieces are available on her site. I wouldn't dare buy a piece like this online without trying it on but Im hoping I can find that orange and pink cardie or white coat with the sq cut outs when I'm in the UK!

STYLE ICON

I was inspired by my karaoke choice from last night. My unlikely style icon mid month is Kim Carnes. OK ya, she kinda looks like Debbie Harry but she has a way more minimalist/south western androgynous sensibility to her pieces and she loves menswear, which makes me love her. She was wearing pretty typical looks of the 80's but I love that she didn't load up on the makeup and tease the shit out of her hair. Basically, she wasn't a slave to the 80's take over of out of control looks. She infused her own personal style into it.

I am going to try and do a style icon once a month. stay tuned for April, its going to be a good one!

SPRING SHOE- YOU WILL BE MINE!

Have you ever seen such a beautiful spring/summer sandal? I doubt it. The brand is toffel relaunched as Hasbeens from Sweden. The only two places in the city to get them are Imelda on the Ronces and Chasse Garde . Let the saving begin!

Wow, have you ever seen anyone look so beautiful!! I'm not into copper tops but I might have to make an exception with Christina "I wish I had asked her for her measurements when I was stalking her at the AGO a few months ago" Hendricks.

I will be picking up the March issue of New York magazine.

LEE MCQUEEN

Needless to say, I'm still very shocked about the suicide of Alexander McQueen. I'm not going to go on about how prolific his work was because everybody knows what a genius he was. Lets just enjoy some of his past runway shows from the past few seasons. I was going to round up a bunch of photos but I think this designers work is beyond that and to truly understand his art and what he stood for you have to watch it. When asked what runway show I would like to attend I always said Alexander McQueen, it breaks my heart to know that will never happen.
